BIOGRAPHY Owen Gerrard
(Nur in englisch vorhanden)
"Minstrel" or "Troubadour" are the adjectives frequently used to describe the communicating andmusical skills of Owen Gerrard, the Irishman from Dublin! ! ! At the age of 20 Owen set off from Ireland, travelling with his guitar and "bodhran"(his Irish traditional drum). He arrived in Bavaria, Germany, where he deepened his knowledge of guitar and vocal skills!
It was here in Germany where Owen started playing in pubs, clubs and festivals, while building up a vast repertoire of Irish songs and all the hits from the last 30 years. Owen spent 4 years playing different venues, between Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where he was playing approx. 200 dates a year, while all the time being "on the road".
It was during this time that Owen started writing seriously his own material (he'd started song-writing from a very early age ) and putting it to music. In 1995, a significant step in Owens career came, when he went to America, where he deeped his knowledge of the "West Coast" style As well as playing in pubs and clubs in the States, he also had the honour of opening for the renowned Clancy Brothers, while on a leg of their American tour.
After returning to Europe ( following the States ), he spent a brief period in Germany, before arriving in Italy, where he started touring the various pubs, clubs and festivals in the North of Italy. Also with increasing frequency, he did mini-tours in Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Ireland, Germany and England. He even spent 2 months playing various parts of the Maldives. In the year 2000,he decided to record his first CD, "Most of the Time", comprised of original songs. It was recorded in Regensburg, Germany at "Abber Deary" studios, with the invaluable help of Gary Wilton, Stephan Auer and Charmien Hermry. The post production work was carried out in Italy, by Marco Reverberi at "Audio factory Studios" in Sorbolo (Parma). In the Spring of 2000, Owen met the musicians Max Bonini, Frank Ghini, Daniele Morelli (Morelli who proved to be an invaluable asset to Owens music over the years following).
Shortly afterwards the "Temple Street Band" was formed. With the help of Maurizio "Genius" Biavardi (Guitar man), Fabio Pizzarotti (Drummer, and who is now 2004/2005 Owens official drummer) and Paolo Gialdi (Bass), Owen and the temple street band toured festivals and venues in Northern Italy and Switzerland. Owen and the temple street band supported the famous Italian group "Modena City Ramblers" in Novellara (Reggio Emilia) main square - July 2000, Sesto Fiorentino (Florence) main square - Sept 2000 and also in Palasavena (Bologna) - March 2001.
He's had success also in "Fuori Orario", Taneto (Reggio Emilia) in May 2001. In July 2001, he produced a memorable performance in Sorbolo's beer Festival ( where many famous names have passed), while supporting the famous Italian band "Bandabardò". There he played in front of 4000 people, while at the beer festival in Travo (Piacenza) he played in front of 5000. In March of 2002, Owen Gerrard and the temple street band recorded the second CD. It was recorded live at the prestigious "VOX" music club in Nonantola (Modena). The CD combined Irish rock folk and various original songs.
In June of 2002, Lino Ceresini replaced Max Bonini as drummer. He was drummer until 2004,when Fabio Pizzarotti stepped in to become Owens official drummer ( and still is to date).
In July 2002, Owen and company were invited to the Irish Music Festival of Bobbio (Piacenza), where they had the honour of playing support for the World renowned "Chieftains". October 2002 gave birth to the "2 Flames tour", which saw Owen touring Europe with the guitarist extraordinaire Daniele Morelli. Owen and Morelli had a huge success with their live tour, so much so, that Morelli is now playing with Gianni Morandi, who is most definitely one of the top names in Italian music. But since the Summer of 2004, Owen Gerrard has reformed the Temple Street Band and it now comprises of Michele “Surza” Zanni (Bass ), Michele “White” Bianchi (guitar) and Fabio Pizzarotti (Drums). All these musicians are highly, experienced musicians, each one having his own experience on his shoulders, varying from jazz to cover bands to disco music. But now they've found the winning combination with the temple street band.
Owen is currently touring Europe, between various c1ubs and pubs, with his acoustic trio (Owen, White and Surza). The show has been received everywhere with huge appreciation, for it's musical quality, as well as it's highly entertaining side.
YOU definitely won't be able to sit still through it. So if you never saw one of this shows, well it's high time you did....
At present Owen is hoping to release his new original CD, "The way it goes". It will hopefully be realised before the end of 2005. Also there's the possibility of a new live release from Owen, as there's great demand for it. |
